Problem solving in Maths

Today we have been applying our understanding of short multiplication by solving a word problem in small groups. We had to calculate the cost of different food items that 2 different families bought to find out which family had spent the most and by how much. To do this we had to complete several multiplications as well as addition in order to find out the answer.

The focus was on working as a team to complete the calculations and setting our work out clearly so it could be understood by others. Once each group had completed the work, they swapped with another group who checked their working out and gave them some feedback.

Here are some examples of our work that we produced. We also reviewed our work and made corrections in red pen.
