Today Mr Cowling, Mr Coupland, Mr Ward and 29 children set of for the IBCC memorial. We arrived at the memorial and Ms Nicky Barr, the directer of IBCC, told us about the day.
Next we had a photograph and the man said, "Your photograph will be put on the IBCC website."
He took us up to the memorial and told us about it. After our questions had been answered, we all looked at the names of the people who had died in WW2. We tried to find our last names and now want to find out if we are related to them.
Amazingly, we met some of the veterans who fought and survived in WW2. It was interesting to listen to their stories.
Some people put poppy wreaths down next to the memorial. It was so sad and made us realise how lucky we are. Standing around the spire we had two minutes of silence. The silence ended with a rather noisy, but exciting flypast by a tornado aircraft. It flew above our heads and was so loud that we covered our ears with our hands.
Next, we were all given five poppies, fact sheets with a photo, names and information about people from bomber command who died in WW2. Having found the number for the correct wall, we placed the poppies on them next to the names. It was very moving.
Afterwards, we had a last look around to see if our surnames had a poppy on them and some did!
What an amazing experience!
