The National Space Centre

The National Space Centre

Our trip to The Space Centre was the best school trip ever.

In this blog we will be telling you all about our Y5/6 Space Centre trip.

As our bus pulled into the bus bay, we were amazed by the incredible rocket tower that stood over us. It was out of this world; we were certainly excited to get inside. A bronze monument in the form of an astronaut hung over us as we walked towards the entrance. We were guided to the centre by astronaut footsteps that we enjoyed following to reach our final destination.

Inside the Space Centre there was: an amazing 4D theatre, called a planetarium, where we watched a film called Astronaut. We learnt about the dangers of space and what training the astronauts need. We didn't know that they trained underwater so that they could experience the feeling of weightlessness. We also learnt that they had to go on an aircraft called the 'Vomit Comet' which ascends high in the sky then descends rapidly, which gives the astronaut trainees the feeling of what zero gravity will really feel like in space for a short amount of time. Finally, there was also the rocket tower, which included three floors of information about the Space Race, plus games and the first sci-fi movie called 'Le Voyage dans la Lune' (The Journey to the Moon) which is about a president who wanted to send people to the moon.

But the main attraction for us was this spectacular laser game where you had to sit on a machine and try to hit the glowing targets with a red laser pointer. Everyone wanted to have a go before we had to return to the coach.

It was an over-the-moon experience, and it was one that we all will never forget.
