L.O: to investigate how the areas of the squares in a Baravelle Spiral change.

In Maths, we have been learning to create spirals within squares. This is an example by Katie:

In today's lesson, we looked at a Baravelle Spiral which is made up of squares. We calculated the area of the first square we used and discussed what happened when we drew a new square inside it using the midpoints.

Here are our results:

We saw that the area halved each time a new square was drawn. We then moved on to talk about the areas of the triangles we created as part of the drawing and discussed our methods for calculating them.

We have since gone on to experiment with drawing spirals within triangles and hexagons. We also have a fantastic display in our Maths classroom of our hard work.
